Sibiling Similarities

Last month, my mom sent this picture of my sister and me (with my childhood best friend's backside making an appearance as well...) with the only message being, "Sooooooo, do you still think you don't look alike?" Alright, alright - I definitely see the family resemblance here! (In case you're wondering, I'm the one sitting in the freezing hose water.) Since Michelle and I are so close in age, we grew up being friends - and from the moment McKenzie was born, I knew I wanted to give her the same kind of 'live-in' friend that I had. When Carson was born - and confirmed, indeed, a boy - I felt a little sorry to see McKenzie's future without a sister close in age. And, when this coming baby was deemed a boy as well, I felt the same twinge of sadness as I realized that McKenzie will never have the same fun, close, friendly relationship with a sister that I had...in her growing up years, anyway.

But, even though McKenzie doesn't have a little sister, she's determined not to let that stop any fun:

I was a tiny bit surprised by my reaction when they came up the stairs dressed like this...instead of an 'Ohhhhhhhh, how sweet!' it was more of a 'spit-my-milk-out-of-my-nose-in-laughter-because-you-look-so-ridiculously-funny!' type of reaction. Nope - nope, nope, nope. Carson does NOT make a beautiful fairy! Cute, maybe, but not beautiful! McKenzie gets along fantastically with her little brother - and I'm realizing that, maybe the way I had it wasn't the only best way. Besides, moments like these are MUCH funnier when a boy is involved!

And, McKenzie definitely has the gold medal when it comes to booty-shaking! She has the grace of a lioness, I tell ya! Carson, on the other hand, seems to have the grace of a baby penguin walking on land...

  1. I laughed out loud when I saw this post - that is EXACTLY how Jason and I were!!! I used to dress him up as "princess Jason"....

  2. LOVE IT!! I know how you feel. I was so sad when both Hunter and Jonathan were boys and Christiana wouldn't have a little girl to play with. I still feel that way when I see Hunter and Jonathan actually playing nicely together (they seem to have conflicting personalities, so it doesn't happen as much as I'd like), but then I remember that she played like that with Hunter, so it really doesn't matter. But between you and me, I have to say IF (and that is a big if) we were to have another I sure hope it is a girl so that Jade has a play buddy.

  3. Wow, you two DO look alike in that picture (but I guessed right about which one was you...)
I always wanted a sister, too, but I came to appreciate my brothers in the long run. We did dress Tim up in a dress once... Maybe McKenzie will grow up with brothers and then go to college and her random roommate will become one of her best friends :)
And with her being the oldest, maybe she will be close to you as her mother and you can be her "sister" friend as well.

  4. Okay, I was totally impressed that I knew which one was you and which one was Michelle. And I love that your mom had to put an end to the debate. Moms are awesome that way. I totally cracked up when I saw poor Carson. I love how cute he looks and how his hair does look a little bit like a fairy with an attitude. Like Julia Roberts as Tink in Hook. That is some sweet blackmail material my friend. Very sweet!

  5. Oh. My. Heck. Cutest pictures ever! You seriously have the funniest kids in the world. I LOVE the booty shaking pic, too. This post sure makes me miss you. Isn't it funny how alike we look in that picture?

  7. Oh Linds, those pic are so cute! Dress up is a everyday thing here. I have picture of Emma putting earings and a crown on Ethan already. Lets just say that Josh was not really happy about that. The kids are just so cute! She looks like she is doing just fine with a little brother! Maybe someday she will get a little sister, you never know!

That is so cute. I remember dressing my nephew in our doll clothes just to see what he looks like. I think he was two and well, we were old enough to know better. It was funny though.

It is also funny how much you and Michelle look alike when you were kids. Celena and I were also pretty close in age and people always asked if we wer twins and we did not look that much a like.

  9. That's hillarious! Especially the booty-shaking. Speaking as one who grew up with TONS of brothers, it can be great, and have it's little big-sister perks, ie. dressing up younger brothers in dresses, nail polish, and make-up just for fun to see if anyone can tell they are a little brother, not sister ;) Love it! Oh, and I have very masculine brothers, in case you're wondering, but they do have dance moves ;)

  10. Oh, I just read what someone else said, and my mom was totally my best friend growing up, and we're still pretty close, so not having sisters close in age has it's perks from a mom's perspective ;)

  11. Well I really appreciate my sister now, but we fought a lot growing up. I have been sad for Abby in missing out on a younger sibling a little closer to her age. But there are great things about their age difference too. And she loves having a sister, but there is NO way Iris will let Abby dress her up! Iris is kind of stubborn that way, I think she learned it from Abby!

    BTW I love the pictures!

  13. I know what you mean, I had a sister just 15 months younger than me, and we did everything together too. I hope that if I ever do get a girl, she will have a sister too!

  14. Oh how cute! I don't think I've ever gotten over my lack of a sister, but now I have you and Meg- so there's still hope for Mackenzie:). How funny that I just noticed yesterday that both Eric's mom and his sister have framed pictures in their houses of him dressed as "Cindy" by his sister and her friend when he was little. Don't mention it to him though, bc he actually gets really upset about it!
