My Kids Ate Cookies for Dinner Tonight...

Yep. My kids ate cookies for dinner tonight. Oh, it wasn't on purpose - no, I actually forgot to feed them dinner. This, seriously, is 100% shocking to me as I've never even come close to forgetting to feed any of my children one of the three major meals. Forgotten a snack? Maybe. But not dinner. Especially not dinner.

It was only 2 months ago that I was talking to my mother on the phone, overwhelmed in the last stretch of pregnancy, when she joked, "Well, there's nothing wrong with serving cold cereal for dinner." I had never thought of such a thing before! And the freedom it gave me! Sure enough, not a week later, I convinced my kids that having cold cereal for dinner was about the coolest thing they could eat.

Yes - dinner is an important part of my life.

So I had to laugh at myself tonight after I'd coined the reason why my stomach was being a little disagreeable. A good friend called and, after laughing along, said "You know, I always say that sometimes, instead of eating something that's good for your body, you need to eat something that's good for your soul."

So, today we fed our souls sugar cookies with green frosting ... and ... well, it was good.

  1. I LOVE this! {We actually just had goldfish and apple sauce for dinner.} But these are the moments your kids will look back on and remember what fun times they had with their family.. Treasure them - as I'm sure you do.. :)

  2. That sounds like the best dinner a child could ask for! I personally like breakfast for dinner, and we have it frequently. I love breakfast food and it was always something we did on Saturdays, and then I got married. Unfortunatly, my hubby doesn't like big breakfasts and would preffer cereal. So instead we have pancakes, waffles, and french toast for dinner. I finally get my breakfast and it's easy and cheap and the kids don't fight eating it. Easy all around! So hears to unusual dinners.

  3. That is just so cute! My kids would think that I am the coolest mom in the world if we had that. I have had night like that. We have had breakfast for dinner a couple of times. We did it a lot when Josh was traveling alot. Cookies are way better though! :) Just think it will be a dinner everyone will remember! :)

  8. It's kind of relieving to hear other mom's do things like that...It helps me feel like maybe we're a little more normal than I sometimes fear:) And I am so glad to hear that Miles is doing better. What a scare!

  9. I love sugar cookies for dinner. In fact, I just may do that tomorrow.

I'm glad your little guy is better! Ugh, what a rough way to start. I'm sure you're juggling your three babies beautifully.
